So I recently found myself asking...what is this gearscore crap and what is the big deal....this comic gave me the answer as to why people are finding it so important over actual skill now....

It seems like everyone on Kilrogg is nuts about gear scores and often people organizing pugs ask for gear scores that seem....excessive for the instances in question.  Wow heroes has been around for a while, but the numbers people are tossing around from that in-game GS calculator are about 2x what the wow heroes numbers are.  Of course once there is an add on for something that allows for pissing matches, all the trade chat spammers get lathered up.  It gives them a break from "anal" this and "babies" that and drawing diagrams with lots of arrows that are labeled as "my penis," I guess.

I have no idea how the numbers are arrived by the various systems out there at or how the gear score number sorts out appropriateness of one's gear.  Like I could replace a 232 item with something at 245 that has inappropriate stats for me....would that raise my gear score or does the program take into account things like hit caps and the relative need for haste versus crit with different classes/specs? If it does not, it seems pretty useless.  I mean my druid's feral gear is better than her healing set, but her healing set is still what she'd need to wear if she is joining a group as a healer.

The problem is Azeroth doesn't have the resources to keep up with soul inflation. The player population increased from 11 million to 11.5 million but during the same time the number of souls increased by 20%. I'm not supposed to tell you this, but it's a system on the brink of collapse.  Faal

I believe wow-heroes is based mostly off of ilevel, but does some attempt to check for off-pieces.... at least for enchants.  I know I logged out in my moonkin gear in feral spec and was docked about 200 points.

Of course on my resto shaman, I've chosen to keep lower ilevel pieces for valid reasons... so keeping a lower gear score but a better set of gear.  Any gear score scheme will have it's failings.  When you take a complex system and convert it into a single number, you will lose information.  Buried in that information is valid reasons why a lower gs is better than a higher one.

What it does give you is a way to compare someone by order of magnitude.  If someone is in naxx gear, they'll have a 2200 gs vs they 2800-3000+ ICC gs.

Now I'd like a addon which could go into a players brain and give me their skill score.
Skill Score:
Bought On Ebay
Stands in Fire
I Like Cleaves
Average
Smokin'
...
What are those dots?  Oh that's the rest of the dps down there

WoW is like Girls Gone Wild without the tits: idiots and douches taking turns doing anything to get noticed, and no one knows what a condom looks like.
